Fuengirola is like the living pages of the history of the main Mediterranean civilizations, from the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors. Sohail Castle, which towers over the city, has foundations dating back to the 11th century and was rebuilt several times to eventually serve as a defense against pirates. The biggest and most popular event of the year is the International Fair that offers visitors an excellent chance to discover 33 countries without leaving the fairground. It’s held in May - one more reason to arrive during the off-peak season. As excursion destinations, we recommend the fishing village of Los Boliches with its exhibition center and famous market, dreamy Granada with its magnificent complex of Moorish rulers, the Alhambra, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Generalife Gardens.

One of the world’s most popular zoos, Bioparc is located right in the city center, and offers extraordinary animal experiences including feeding and exercising Komodo Dragons. If you’re keen to see the Corrida de toros for yourself, the place to go is the historic walled city of Ronda, about an hour and a half’s drive away. It’s one of the oldest bullfighting centers with a tradition still alive.
